Ponyo 🐟 amigurumi free pattern

Welcome back to the Domigurumi Blog!
Today i want to share with you the Ponyo amigurumi free pattern. She is a little girl who comes from the ocean and the movie by Studio Ghibli is a treasure ♥️

Materials:

Domigurumi Sport (4ply) yarn in nude, red, rust/orange, white, green and some black for the embroidery
2 mm hook
yarn needle
fiberfill
6 mm safety eyes (or you can embroider them if you want to gift the doll to a newborn)

I used as always Domigurumi Sport (4 ply) cotton (the best around 🤭) with a 2 mm hook, but you can use whatever you like (or already have)!

Let’s start making the two legs, then we will join them and make the body and the head in one piece.

In nude

6 sc in a magic ring
inc in all stitches (12)

3-5. 12 sc (3 ROUNDS)

6. 4 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc (10)

7-20. 10 sc (14 ROUNDS)

Make 2 sc (or as many as you need) to reach the right side of the leg. Fasten off the first leg and weave in the yarn tail. To make the second leg repeat the instructions, make 1 round more (21 in total), make the sc needed to reach the right side of the leg and keep working as follows:

ch 4, slst in one of the stitches on the left side of the first leg (the feet must point at you), ch 1 and starting in the same stitch make 10 sc around the first leg, 4 sc on the chain, 10 sc around the second leg, 4 sc on the other side of the chain (28)

Insert the safety eyes between rounds 28 and 29, 7 stitches apart. Use some white yarn to embroider the eyes. Then with black yarn embroider the mouth on round 25, long about 8 stitches and make a knot on round 24 to make Ponyo smile. Embroider the eyebrows, a little raised to mirror Ponyo’s expression.

Don’t stuff the arms. Flatten them and close the opening with 3 sc through both layers, then fasten off leaving a long tail. Sew the arms on the body.

Hair

In rust/orange

8 sc in a magic ring
BLO inc in all stitches (16)

Make 4 sc and keep working as follows to make the strands. Work in the front loops you have skipped in the previous rounds. (FLO)

(slst, ch 6, starting from the 3rd ch from hook 4 sc, skip 1 sc, slst in the next st)x4, slst, ch 13, starting from the 3rd ch from hook 11 sc, skip 1 sc, slst in the front loop of the round above.

Fasten off, use the pins to find the right position of the strands and sew the hair on Ponyo’s head. The short strands must go on the forehead.

Dress

In red, work in rows

Ch 25
24 sc, ch 1 and turn
2 sc, ch 6, skip 6 stitches, 8 sc, ch 6, skip 6 stitches, 2 sc, ch 1 and turn (24)

Close the round with a slst in the first hdc and keep working in spiral

10-12. 60 hdc, slst in the first hdc and ch 1 (3 ROUNDS)

14. (skip 1 stitch, 3 hdc in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, slst in the next stitch)x12

Fasten off and weave in the yarn tail.

Put the dress on Ponyo and sew the opening on the back.

Sleeves

Pull up a loop of red yarn in the first stitch on the upper side of the sleeve hole you left on round 3 of the dress

Fasten off and weave in the yarn tail. Repeat the instructions to make the other sleeve.

White panties

In white

Make the hdc that you need to reach the central back stitch of the panties. Now you must divide the work in two to make the legs, 26 stitches each and leaving 2 stitches on the front centre and 2 stitches on the back. You can use stitch markers to help finding the right stitches.

First leg:

starting to count from the central stitch of the back make 1 slst in the 31st stitch form the leg, 11 hdc, dec, 11 hdc, dec (24)

Fasten off and weave in the yarn tail.

Second leg:

Leave 2 stitches on the front and 2 on the back, and pull up a loop in the 3rd stitch on the back.

Ch 11 without fastening off, skip 8 stitches and make 1 slst in the 9th free stitch to make the handle. Fasten off and weave in the yarn tail. Pull up a loop in the FLO of round 4 and make 18 slst. Fasten off and weave in the yarn tail.
